Milan: Free Activities to Add to Your Vacation Itinerary

Every vacation budget can use a little relief when it comes to planning activities. That’s why we have put together a list of free activities to add to your vacation itinerary while in Milan.

Find Peace of Mind in Milan’s Beautiful Parks and Gardens.

With over 50 green spaces to choose from in the city, you will find some relaxation. We recommend visiting Villa Necchi Campiglio garden. Nestled behind the walls of a private residence, this garden oasis is a favorite with locals and tourists alike.

Another wonder of Milan is the Botanical Garden and Astronomical Museum. Located a short distance from the Pinacoteca you will find the Palazzo Brera with its 18th century Botanical Garden.

If you prefer to be more active, the Idroscalo offers space for fishing, running, skating, skateboarding, and mountain biking. Don’t forget to visit the Children’s Village, the Art Park, or the Garden of Forgotten Games.

Admire Milan’s Culture in One of the Many Museums

All of Milan’s civic museums allow free entry during the last hour of the day. On Tuesdays, free entry begins at two o’clock. If you want more time to view the impressive art collections, these museums offer free admission all day on the first Sunday of every month.

We also recommend visiting the Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano and Studio Francesco Messina, two house museums not to be missed. Or for a more contemporary experience, visit Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, the Fondazione Prada, or the Hangar Bicocca. While all three boasts of amazing contemporary art, only the Hangar Bicocca offers free entry.

While often overlooked, the city churches offer great treasures of art. All except the Milan Duomo can be viewed without a ticket.

Milan offers a treasure trove of art and green spaces, perfect for adding activities to your vacation itinerary without spending a fortune. For a special overview of the city, visit Palazzo Lombardia any Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Access to the skyscraper’s belvedere is available without fee or reservations.
