After Christmas everybody looks forward to making their New Year’s Eve more special. Whether you’re looking for a loud party, live music or a reclusive romantic spot for the view of blasting fireworks over the city; Amsterdam has it all.
Amsterdam builds up the best New Year excitement starting as early as 24 hours before the actual event. Tourists flock towards this city in huge numbers to celebrate Oud en Nieuw (Dutch for New Year meaning “Old and New”), making it one of the most favorite European escapes on New Year. Streets lights, drinks, snacks, kids with firecrackers on the streets, a seamless merry making spirit occupies the whole town. To secure comparatively calm spot to view the fireworks go on one of the bridges over the canals or book a private boat for more magical experience.
More recently Amsterdam is taking the crown off Paris in being the most romantic getaway for couples. Many are seen boating around the canals reflecting shimmery lights atop the classic architecture of the city or sharing a cuppa at one of the back alley cafes or taking a quaint evening walk just before the New Year’s eager crowds have not yet fully taken up the streets around the canals.
The last minute booking idea definitely fails around this time of the year. There’s still time and few good centrally located spaces left to book. Check out this newly renovated 2 bedroom apartment in historical building near Amsterdam’s Central Station, Nieuwmarkt, across the floating Chinese restaurant, Sea Palace and museums. As it’s located at the centre of many canals you can find a wide selection of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and coffee shops around.
