Sweden has seen a rise in tourists and business travellers who enjoy fine dining and unusual dining experiences. So, it’s no surprise to see foodies flock to Gothenburg where world-class seafood and award-winning restaurants await.
But food is not the only reason to visit this coastal city. Here we outline three of our favorite reasons to visit Gothenburg.
1. Lisenerg Amusement Park: Even if you arrive on business, we suggest you schedule an afternoon to visit this theme park. A spin on the Liseberg Wheel will afford amazing views of the city and the thousands of flower in bloom during the summer months. If you happen to visit during the holiday season, you will be greeted by a spectacular Christmas Market. This is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike.Visit their website for more information: www.liseberg.com
2. Haga: Travel to the west of the city to find one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, Haga. This part of the city dates back to the mid-17th century and boasts of charming homes, boutiques, cafes, and fine dining. There is even a chocolatier that’s been in business for over 140 years. In the evenings, you will find live music and plenty of atmosphere.
3. Skansen Kronan: A short walk from Haga you will the Skansen Kronan fortress and expensive views of the city. The fortress was built in 1697 to defend the city from Danish attack, but was never used for this purpose. Instead it has been used as a prison, military museum, private residence, and now is used as a conference center with a restaurant. During the summer you can find home-baked cakes and pastries, as well as ice-cream.
A trip to Sweden is not complete until you visit Gothenburg and we suggest you visit all three locations while in visiting this coastal city. Before arriving, book an apartment through Red Apple Apartments so you can stay close to the spots you want to visit.
