Okay, maybe not the first beer ever brewed since beer dates back 12,000 years, but Copenhagen is where the first Carlsberg beer was brewed in 1847. This location is home to the original Carlsberg Brewery, now a museum.
Beer enthusiasts and curious tourists will love visiting the 100,000-square foot brewery, now a busy visitors center. The expansive building houses interactive exhibits on the history of beer. This exhibit also features the world’s largest collection of beer bottles!
While there, check out the exhibits on the Carlsberg Group and the history of the world’s fifth largest brewing company. A favorite feature of the “Copenhagen Exbeerience” is the many tour options available.
Guided Tours: Enjoy a guided tour of the brewery including interesting facts on the brewing process, brewery architecture, and Carlsberg history. End the tour with two complimentary beers or soft drink. Anyone under eighteen receive soft drinks.
Carriage Ride: Take a carriage ride through the brewery district and learn about the iconic buildings in the district. Rides last 15 minutes and feature buildings from the last 100 years. Kids love the ride and may even get to pet the horses!
Beer Tastings: A favorite among beer enthusiasts and beginners alike is beer tasting. Your guide will teach you about the brewing process, ingredients used, and flavors created. Best part of the tasting is the beer! You will sample three of Carlsberg’s beers from the Jacobsen Brewery.
Finish your tour with dinner at the restaurant and bar, either included in your ticket price or for an added fee if you used your Copenhagen Card’s free admission.
