Russia is a hotbed of activity as St. Petersburg prepares for the FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament. The event takes place every four years. This year, the FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament is the warm-up for the 2018 World Cup which Russia is also hosting. To kick off the celebration, a flash mob flooded St. Petersburg’s Central Square.
Flash Mob Dancing Tribute to The Nations
Over 1,000 volunteers were on hand to coordinate a flash mob celebrating 100 days till the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament. The flash mob comprising dance school students who performed traditional dances from the countries taking part in this year’s tournament. Even Brazil’s football legend Cafu was joined by several Russian National Team veterans in dancing with the mob at the new Zenit Stadium.
Zenit Stadium to Host The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament and 2018 World Cup
Zenit Stadium recently opened and is praised for modern facilities. Brazilian legend Cafu said of the stadium, “This stadium is fantastic. It is a modern venue in a beautiful city hosting a very important tournament.”
Cafu went onto say, “I have great memories of the Confederations Cup. It is a very competitive and short competition, which I am proud to have won. And of course, it is a great way for teams and hosts to prepare for the World Cup.”
The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament takes place June 17 and July 2. The stadium will welcome 45,000 fans from around the world to watch teams from Russia, Germany, Australia, Cameroon, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, and Portugal. Germany is the reigning champions.
