Apartments are situated in the very heart of the Diocletian's palace. The house that they are in was built in the 16th century. During the restoration, the main idea was to keep every original feature and by doing so, respect the history, lives and fate of people who lived there. Contrary to the business of our modern lives, there is a sense of calm and stillness.
Apartment is ideal for two persons (can be plus one child) and consist double bed (can't be separated into two singles), separate living area,...There is double sofa in living area, but cann't be open into bed.In same time that sofa can be ideal sleeping place for one child.
The house with apartments is situated inside the Diocletian's palace. We can say that this is urban and in same time residential area.
Do not expect a palace though, not a museum-this is the living heart of the city, its labyrinthine streets packed with people, bars, shops and restaurants. The narrow streets hide passageways and courtyards, some deserted and eerie, others thumping with music from bars and cafes, while the local residents hang out their washing overhead, kids play football amid the ancient walls and grannies sit in their windows watching the action below. It's an enchanting place (part from lonelyplanet)!
From the south facing window you can see one of the oldest cathedrals in the world-cathedral of St.Duje, patron saint of Split- it's just only 100m from the apartment!
Each wall of the palace has it's own gate named after the metal: at the northern end is the GOLDEN GATE, while the southern end has the BRONZE GATE.The eastern gate is SILVER GATE and to the west is IRON GATE.
The view of narrow passages and red-brick roofs and the spirit of the old city will make your stay in Split unforgettable!
It takes aprox. 30 min on your way from airport to city center. The cheapest way is to take one of the Croatia Airline bus which are connected with mostly flights.
Found SILVER GATE (east side-from the side of green market!).Enter the gate, turn on the right on the second street (approx. 80m) and turn on the left on first street. That will be Diocletianova street-found number 12.Do not forget that the area inside the palace and close to the palace is walking area!
...or call me if you lost!
Facing the harbour, Diocletian's palace is one of the most imposing Roman ruins in existence and the place you'll spend most of your time while in Split and our house with apartments is situated in the very heart of the Palace.
